Welcome, new students!

Welcome to a new semester of Modern World History. I hope you are as psyched as I am to be starting anew!

Below, you will find the links to the articles that will appear on tomorrow's current events quiz. Don't hesitate to leave a comment about any of the articles, or even to link me to another news item you discovered and would like to learn more about.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

  • At least 150 were killed in Nigeria, prompting the group Human Rights Watch to investigate.
  • The Supreme Court made an historic ruling on Thursday dealing with corporate limits on campaign spending.

See you tomorrow!

  1. I think the article about hope for Haiti is interesting because it shows how much celebs care about the small country of Haiti and have the heart to help it out by raising $58 million.

  2. I find the supreme court ruling on the amount of money cooperation can give to independent political ads quite appalling. i think there should be a limit to the amount of corporate spending because if there isn't a limit then a politician can sell himself to the highest bidder and abandon his idea toward the lower classes

  3. Zach, I have to agree with you on this one. Some say that restricting the corporations' campaign spending was an infringement on their First Amendment rights. My opinion is that allowing the corporations to spend endlessly will only serve to take away the voice of the average Joe.

  5. I find it interesting that bin Laden would accept responsibility for the attack on the Christmas Day attack attempt. Most reports say that he had nothing to do with the attack at all. I really think it's just him trying to stay relevant in a world where he's merely a blip on the radar, as many have said as well. Who knows if it's even him? If it's not authenticated, maybe it's just another al-Qaida official trying to get more attention to the group. Whatever it is, it's going to take more than a last ditch effort to try and attribute the attack to the group for them to be targeted like they did after the USS Cole/September 11th attacks.
